A majority of Americans set gas prices for all of us

GasBuddy Blog -- As much as it stinks to hear, sometimes rising gasoline prices are partially our own fault. The fact that Americans are beginning to spend more shows that the economy is on the mend, and while Americans may be buying more food or clothes, they're also making more trips to the store, the mall, etc. The one product letting them get there is gasoline. We can directly tie increased shopping purchases and retail sales increases to gasoline demand. The more people are purchasing, the more gasoline they're undoubtedly using to get to stores or to the mall.

February's retail sales report showed definite signs of people beginning to open their wallets more for items they want, but that also means they should prepare to pay more at the pump...

They will raise the price of fuel again and that will start more job loss and a new recession.

I'm driving less and still pay more for the cost of gas. My savings is in the fact that I'm using less gas. When it comes to the price of gas less is more.

If this were true, then gas prices would have fallen much further then they did, and would have fallen faster.

While consumption effects price, it's not nearly as much as other factors do.

this is just WRONG !!

look at electronics . . . more volume results in lower prices . . . which makes for even more volume and more profits for suppliers. nobody in their right mind would say 'I'm going to restrict sales on my I-phones to XX units per year and double the price" !!

Perfect liberal thinking. It is all OUR fault. Guess that's why Obama continually appologizes to other nations for what he preceives as an America that should be blamed. Really great to have a president that is ashamed of his country ... but is it really his.

This rings true to me, at least with what I see in Southern California. When are the mall parking lots not full of cars? Only when the stores are closed.

I believe it has more to do with profit at the Corporate level that anything else.
Look at how low the prices dropped in 2008 and how it climbed last year with continued conservation from us. Just greed!

We live in a society of cars and other vehicles which use gas. Then we also have snowblowers, lawnmowers, chainsaws, etc. Face it, we're in a gas needy world right now.

Don't count me in those stats, I rarely make a special trip to a store. Fortunately I pass the stores I need to go to on my way to and from work.

I thin speculators or a fe set the price. Saying that the demand has the control is misleading and I think inaccurate!

If the unholy Triumvirate of Obama, Pelosi and Reid get Obamacare, tax and trade or higher taxes passed through Congress, this will take care of itself as the American economy suffers the second dip of a double dip recession. But we will have other worries at that point.

Remember, we can start correcting the Great Mistake of 2008 in November!
