oh wait, there are two areas: wasting of fossil fuels and going into debt well over both collective ears.

Sneakers: another clear demonstration why the US has long lost its status as the LEADER in the world. We're trailing in all areas of life now.

What they need is to go with "Chip and PIN" like the rest of the developed world.
They're starting to get rid of the embossed printing on credit and debit cards. Let merchants use the magnetic stripe. How long as it been since you've seen a merchant use a Bartizan? Also, if there's no embossed printing, it's much easier to issue cards at bank branches.

cash is still better. Or credit card - or you could do a credit-debit which also is more secure than a regular debit card.

It really emphasizes how protective you have to be when scams can occur at any level. It really helps to cooperate with law enforcement to deter and catch the scammers.

A credit card is the way to go. You get protection against unauthorized purchases. Pay on time there are no interest charges plus I get 3% back on Mobil/Exxon gasoline or 1% off other brands.

Stay as close to the front of the gas station as possible and use your hand to shield the card, or where the card is not exposed to sight...

Wrong MRED3. It simply depends on how much guaranteed fraud protection your debit card provider gives you. Generally a Credit Union debit card offers much more fraud protection, but you must check with your provider. You cannot ck. for skimmers at a gas pump, since it will be hidden inside and out of sight.

People always need to be aware of skimmer's it is always best to use a credit card instead of a debit card when buying things. Skimmer's are put everywhere even some fast food places have been known to have them. Should always check around the card feeder to make sure nothing is around it and don't use it if the card feeder looks like it has been tampered with.

Ticoman54 wrote---Why can't the same protections for a credit card be provided for a debit card ??\\\\\\\Thats a very good question, and here's my synopsis on its reasons.-----Big credit card companies have the manpower, money, time and attorneys to go after the thieves in our world; whereas the banks (usually small compared to the credit card companies) do not have all those resources to fight criminals that violate by using stolen or bogus bank issued debit cards.

Why would anyone want to use a debit card? Credit cards are much safer to use. and they dont have access to your cash... you can dispute a CC claim but debit is gone from your acct and you have to fight and fight to get it back.

Debit or credit.. it is open season on identify theft and skimmers. With certain standard keys that open numerous gas pumps across brands. At the time....some how they get you.. protect your self do not be a victim.

This is a very enlighening news item which expands on earlier warnings that really didn't help as much as they might have scared people from using the cards. But it will sure stop me from using the debit cards.

I don't use debit cards for that reason.
I prefer credit cards for they do offer more protection when one has to sign. I'm not crazy about the new chip cards that require only a PIN number. Plus Credit Cards give me points.
