Did Toyota Prius Driver Fake Unintended

Aol Autos -- Did the driver of a runaway Toyota Prius in San Diego tell the truth when he said his accelerator pedal stuck earlier this week? New evidence is calling the driver's credibility into question, although the real answer will not be entirely clear until Toyota and the NHTSA announce the results of their investigation. Details about the driver, James Sikes, leave many wondering if he had ulterior motives for his claims.

This is just another aspect of the acceleration problem. In almost every case, there is no hard evidence of what occurred - just the claim of the driver.

In most cases it could be a mechanical/electronics problem, an accident (pressing on the gas instead of the brake) or fraud. So far, we just can not prove which it is in any individual case.

I don't think that the driver of the runaway Toyota Prius in Harrison, NY fake the unintended acceleration incident in her case. Now an engineer from Toyota is going to probe the cause of the crash.

You have to wonder if some of these events are fake. Human nature what it is, guarantees that some are fake.

If it was me I'd rather people think I faked it. Otherwise they would think I was a total moron.

I mean what a great quote: "At least thanks to me people know how to put a moving Prius into neutral." Umm... I think most drivers already know how to put a car into neutral, jackass.

Getting $20k for the car doesn't seem worth risking life and the car, even for someone in debt. Reputable news organizations usually don't pay for interviews. Now he has a 2008 Prius wth fried brakes. Maybe he was frozen with fright and unable to shift to neutral. Still, there have not been throttle problems with more than 99 per cent of Prius models

This little nugget of information just further muddies the water on the issue.
