Ethanol-free gas running on fumes

Lancaster Sunday News -- The nationally averaged cost of a gallon of regular, 10-percent ethanol blend was $2.71 last week. It's typically cheaper than straight gas. But motorists go out of their way to buy the pricier stuff from John's Gulf, 517 Union St., owner John Kirchner said.

"The conventional gas is definitely better," he added. "As long as we can get it we'll keep selling it."

Gasoline/ethanol blends have become standard service station fare since passage of a 2007 federal renewable fuel standard intended to cut pollution and foreign oil dependence.

Nationally, said Al Mannato of the American Petroleum Institute in Washington, "About 90 percent of the gasoline in the United States has 10 percent ethanol in it."

Straight gas isn't fading without a fight, though...

Just give the rest of us a choice. I remember ethanol from decades ago in seedy cheapo gas stations -- it was like the WalMart of gasoline, a place where only those who were barely scraping by would go to save a few pennies, or those who didn't care about their car's health (or both). Even then we didn't know anywhere near what we know now about what it does to fuel economy. Remember those daze? Well, it's the same stuff. The only thing that's changed is the option to bypass it for real gas.

Here's some resources we have so far: Puregas.org is one... Buyrealgas.com is another found on a search recently, not sure of the reliability... And then there are numerous threads in the "Local Discussion" forum of various states (or there should be-- if you can't find one, start one) And remember members, if you know of one in your area, let the world know by entering "ethanol-free" in the comments field when reporting a price. So all we have to do in Oklahoma is just look at the pump and see if it says "contains 10% ethanol". Most stations that have pure 100% gasoline advertise it with labels at the pump and large banners, "no ethanol in our gasoline!" Some stations sell both 100% and E10. We have tested some to the stations and instead of E10 some are E15, E17 or even E20. The ethanol damages plastic and rubber parts in lawn mowers, chain saws, boats, and your car.

I'm going on that website to see if there's a station near me that sells the good stuff. My vehicle definately gets better gas mileage with the straight gas vs. ethanol laced gas. They however would be the first to protest wasting food suitable for human consumption." Obviously you've misread my post. I replied to another poster emphasizing the need to NOT use farmland for ethanol production. Unless the real world is wrong, field corn is grown on farmland. Using your own logc, since field corn is used to feed livestock, using it to produce ethanol removes it from the feed stock supply, reducing the amount of food available for livestock and therefore reducing the number of livestock that are capable of being produced for market... less food for them means less food for us. As for farmers "finally" making a profit on corn. Give me a break. Corn production is subsidized to the hilt. No one can grow corn themselves to feed their own livestock or for chemical production for less than they can buy it from subsidized corn farmers. It's well documented and a primary reason why chemical extracts & compounds are created from corn. Here's a sample list of items derived from corn: Alpha Tocopherol Cellulose Calcium Stearate Xylitol Ethyl Lactate Maltodextrin Saccharin Polydextrose Ethylene Fibersol-2 Sucrose Gluten Sorbital White Vinegar Ethel Acetate Citrus Cloud Emulsion High Fructose Corn Syrup Fumaric Acid Citric Acid Ascorbic Acid Inosital Di-Glycerides Baking Powder Zein Fructose Semolina Sorbic Acid Vanilla Extract Margarine Starch In other words, almost anything you buy has corn in it... from baby powder to Coca Cola. Now, tell me WHO is paying for all of that? You got it. Taxpayers! WHO is profiting from all of that? Corn farmers.

Any vehicle designed for use with Ethanol only, will always work best without a blended fuel. So far, there isn't an engine in existence that works as well on blended fuels as an engine designed for ONE specific fuel.
